In Washington, D.C. , White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denounced a media story on Sunday (local time) that claimed US federal law enforcement officials had detained an innocent 'moped driver' there.
Leavitt claimed that before publishing, the media outlet did not verify the story with the White House and that the person mentioned in the report was an illegal immigrant who was thought to have ties to a gang.
"Politico," she stated in a post on X. The goal of today's playbook was to scare DC citizens into thinking that an innocent moped rider was arbitrarily detained by federal law enforcement. Prior to publication, Politico may have contacted the White House for feedback, and we would have been able to provide them the information. The moped rider was a Venezuelan unlawful alien criminal who was thought to be a member of a gang and was subject to a final order of removal from the nation. The unlawful alien criminal fought arrest at the time of his arrest, injuring a law enforcement officer with a concussion.
Politico's report claimed that the hooded officers, whose vests only said "police," declined to identify themselves and drove the driver away without telling either him or the bystanders the cause.
In the meantime, US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said that there have been 300 arrests made in Washington, DC.
