The new 20-kilometer coastal dirt route that will connect the wilayats of Rakhyout and Dhalkout in the Dhofar Governorate is being built by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in Salalah.
In collaboration with a local Omani firm that specializes in the industry, the initiative aligns with the ministry's efforts to improve road networks and improve logistical and tourism links between the wilayats of Dhofar.
According to the Oman News Agency (ONA), the new road in Dhofar Governorate, which has a width of 12 meters to accommodate a wide range of vehicles, travels through difficult mountainous terrain, according to Mohammed Tabook, Director General of Roads and Land Transport in the governorate. By cutting the distance from 60 kilometers to around 20 kilometers—a shortcut of about 40 kilometers—the project will, he pointed out, make it easier to travel between the two wilayats.
In addition to passing through several notable natural and tourist attractions, such as water springs, wadis, archaeological sites, and beaches, he said that the road is essential in promoting tourism in the area, especially during the Khareef (monsoon) season.
Tabook stated that, in accordance with Dhofar's development goals and with the goal of enhancing the governorate's road infrastructure quality, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology is now examining the potential of incorporating the project into upcoming road paving projects.
