US: Five US Soldiers Injured In Shooting By Fellow Soldier, Suspect In Custody

Washington: A terrible event occurred at Fort Stewart military base in Georgia, United States, on Wednesday, when a fellow activeduty soldier shot and wounded five other soldiers. According to CNN, the incident occurred within the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team's zone.

According to CNN, the incident occurred about 11 a. m. local time. According to authorities, the perpetrator shot at other soldiers with his own weapon. Other troops on the site apprehended the suspect, who was detained by 11:35 a. m. , almost 40 minutes after the gunfight started.

According to CNN, five troops were hurt in the incident.

Two of them were transferred to Savannah's Memorial Health University Medical Center. Three others were being treated at an Army hospital.

According to Army officials, all five are in stable condition and likely to recover.

The shooter has been identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old native of Jacksonville, Florida. He is an active-duty soldier assigned to the same brigade where the incident happened and joined the Army in 2018 as an automated logistical expert.

According to CNN, he has no military background, and authorities are unaware of any prior behavioral problems. However, he was detained in May of this year for driving while intoxicated.

The cause for the attack remains unclear.

The Army Office of Special Trial Counsel (OSTC), the Army's counterpart of the US Attorney's Office, will handle the case.

Sgt. Radford is expected to undergo a general courtmartial, which is the most serious type of military trial reserved for the most heinous offenses, according to the US Department of Defense, as reported by CNN.

In response to the tragedy, US President Donald Trump condemned it as an outrage and offered condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families.

Around 11:00 a. m. , five individuals were critically injured and two were extremely seriously wounded. According to CNN, the shooter is now in custody, and the Army Criminal Investigation Division is on site to guarantee that the perpetrator of this crime, which is precisely what it is, will be prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law, Trump said on Wednesday before an event at the White House.

He stated that the entire country is praying for the victims and their families, and that he hopes they will fully recover so that we can move on from this chapter. But we will not forget what happened. We will treat this individual who committed this act very well, as they are a horrible person.

Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of Defense, addressed the incident on X (previously Twitter), describing it as a cowardly attack.

We owe immense gratitude to the brave police personnel who plunged into danger. According to him, the perpetrator and anybody else implicated will face swift justice.
