Sustainable Food Security Forum Explores Innovation Support And National Capacity Building

Muscat: The Sustainable Food Security Forum, which took place on Sunday in Muscat with the topic Innovation in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture, looked at realistic and creative ways to increase productivity and efficiency in key food-related industries. The event focused on encouraging collaboration across these industries, promoting sustainability, supporting creativity and entrepreneurship, and developing national capabilities.

The conference, organised under the leadership of Eng. Yaqoub Khalfan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources for Fisheries, is consistent with national efforts to realise Oman Vision 2040. This vision seeks to develop a varied and sustainable economy based on innovation and technology, with a focus on natural resource sustainability as a foundation for boosting food security systems.

The conference focused on four key topics: agricultural sustainability innovation, sustainable fisheries development, water resource management, and capacity building in conjunction with innovation and entrepreneurship assistance.

Parallel to the conference, an Innovation in Food Security Exhibit featured over 30 breakthrough initiatives proposed by students, graduates, and entrepreneurs. The event also featured consultative meetings with specialist professionals and highlighted national success stories.

The forum aims to promote national programs, improve public-private collaborations, attract investments, and establish an engaging platform for debate and knowledge exchange by bringing together experts, academics, and speakers from numerous government and commercial organizations and universities. These initiatives are intended to improve Oman's food security framework for future generations.
