Duqm: The Duqm Airport Roundabout to Ras Markaz dual-carriageway project has achieved more than 70% completion, with various critical components finished, putting the project on track to shortly enable smooth traffic flow.

The project includes a dualcarriageway with two lanes in each direction over a 42. 9-kilometer stretch, as well as 11. 5 kilometers of auxiliary roads, including access routes to roundabouts and links to the airport area.

The route will connect storage tanks in Ras Markaz to the Duqm Airport Roundabout, passing via the Green Industries Zone and a number of current projects. It will also connect to the inhabited hamlet of Dhahar and the Salalah route, improving connection between key projects in the southern part of the Duqm Special Economic Zone (SEZAD).

According to Eng. Salim bin Juma AlGhanbousi, Senior Quantity Surveying and Contracts Specialist, the project will cost more than RO 57. 6 million. In a statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA), he stated that the project includes vital tasks such as building wadi drainage culverts, creating future utility corridors (for water, power, and communications), relocating damaged fiberoptic lines, and providing required protection for Duqm Refinery's oil pipelines.

According to engineer Mohammed bin Salim AlTamimi, one of the project engineers at Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (Tatweer), more than 90% of work on Main Roads 1 and 2 has been completed, as well as over 90% of concrete building works. Asphalt layer works have surpassed 70% completion.

In his statement to ONA, he confirmed that all surface water drainage culverts have been completely constructed. The project also involves placing smart lighting poles along the whole path.

Furthermore, 10% of the overall project value has been designated for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), recognizing their importance in large project delivery and encouraging the local economy.
