Cooperation Agreement Inked To Develop Hydrogen Transportation Network In Oman

Muscat: OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) has entered into a partnership agreement with Belgium’s Fluxys to collaboratively establish fundamental infrastructure for hydrogen transportation in Oman.

The agreement was executed by Eng. Mansour Ali Al Abdali, CEO of OQGN, and Pascal De Buck, CEO and Managing Director of Fluxys, during a ceremony in Muscat, overseen by Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.

Through this agreement, both companies will work together to acquire a minority interest in the hydrogen network and will take part in its operations. OQGN and Fluxys possess a mutual vision to spearhead energy transition efforts by utilizing their integrated infrastructure and shared goals to facilitate the swift and efficient development of hydrogen infrastructure that aligns with Oman’s objectives—consistent with the ambitions of "Oman 2040" and its hydrogen production targets.

This cooperation agreement reinforces the collaboration between OQGN and Fluxys, following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) established in September 2023 for strategic partnership in the growth of hydrogen and carbon dioxide networks in Oman. It also follows Fluxys acquiring a 4.9% stake in OQGN as a significant investor during the company’s initial public offering (IPO).

This alliance emphasizes OQGN’s dedication to promoting the prompt growth of decarbonisation infrastructure in Oman and illustrates Fluxys’ strategy of connecting with and investing in emerging low-carbon energy value chains in countries with substantial renewable energy potential, while also linking them to Belgium and Europe.
