Sea Turtle Returns To Oman Shores After 15 Years Since Tagging

Ras Al Hadd: A crew from the Environment Authority has successfully observed the return of a green sea turtle to Seih Al Mara'e in the Wilayat of Sur, South A'Sharqiyah Governorate. This signifies its comeback after more than 15 years since its initial tagging.

The turtle was first tagged on September 7, 2010, in the Seih Al Mara'e region during sea turtle nesting monitoring at the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve.

This return emphasizes these animals' deep attachment to their original nesting sites and demonstrates the vital need of tagging programs in monitoring their migration and researching their return behaviors. Such activities greatly enhance conservation efforts and the maintenance of biological variety.

It is essential to point out that the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve is one of the world's most popular sea turtle nesting locations, attracting thousands of turtles each year. Continuous monitoring and research activities have collected important data to help preserve this unique environmental heritage for future generations.
