Muscat: The Omani Adventure Tourism Experience programme, organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism from May 25-28, began on Monday with the participation of a Saudi Tourism Authority delegation and several Saudi firms that specialize in the tourism sector.
The initiative seeks to highlight Oman's competence in adventure tourism legislation and encourage information sharing among Omani enterprises in this sector.
This effort is part of the Sultanate of Oman's strategic collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aimed at strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation—particularly in adventure tourism, which is experiencing fast regional and global expansion. Both countries have varied natural, geographical, and geological landscapes, making them suitable for this type of tourism.
Fakhriya Khamis Al Ghassani, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism's Director of Product Development and Tourism Experiences, underlined that the initiative is consistent with the Ministry's efforts to regulate and develop adventure tourism in accordance with international standards and frameworks. This contributes to the goals of "Oman Vision 2040" which include diversifying and sustaining the tourism sector.
She remarked that the initiative provides a venue to highlight the experiences of licenced Omani firms, highlight the Ministry's infrastructure and regulatory developments, and deepen ties with the commercial sector.
She emphasized the significance of regional cooperation, notably with Saudi Arabia, to increase reciprocal tourism and provide consumers with unified, meaningful experiences. The inauguration ceremony included a video presentation by the ministry on Oman's adventure tourism industry, as well as interactive displays by key Omani firms and adventurers. On the first day, Omani enterprises showcased cutting-edge adventure gear, focusing on adherence to international safety rules.
The programme includes field trips to major tourist attractions, such as Al Jabal Al Akhdhar in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
