Muscat: Imagine approaching at Muscat International Airport relaxed, knowing that your luggage has already been checked in with Oman Air. No more last-minute bag counts or lengthy airport queues.
Oman's national airline intends to launch its first city checkin centre in Muscat, where passengers may drop off their belongings and check in before their trip.
The new service would allow visitors to bypass airport check-in queues and go directly to immigration, expediting the pre-flight process.
Oman Air CEO, Con Korfiatis, told Times of Oman, "We are actually aiming to trial that to see how it goes. We're not sure if it will function here because it doesn't work everywhere. Some city offices prefer to work in areas where people travel considerable distances to the airport. And people may want to travel by train rather than carrying five heavy suitcases on the train. We don't see much of that dynamic around here. It is a modest town. However, we haven't made a firm decision yet, but we are considering testing it to see how it goes. And if it works and there is significant demand for it, we may invest more in it. "
He added, "We'll give it a shot and see what it looks like. "
When questioned about the timeline for delivering this service, he responded, "Hopefully before the end of the year. "
Oman Air has recently implemented a handy city check-in facility for passengers departing from Salalah, with the goal of simplifying travel throughout the peak khareef season.
The "Maraheb" service, which was created in collaboration with Transom Handling, allows passengers to complete travel processes in advance at Salalah Gardens Mall, saving airport lines and providing a more seamless and comfortable travel experience.
This effort represents Oman Air's dedication to increasing passenger comfort and operational efficiency, particularly during the khareef season, when travel to and from Salalah peaks.
