Nottingham Forest Sack Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo After Strained Relations With Club Owner

Nottingham: Nottingham Forest has terminated its relationship with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, just months after granting him a new contract following a successful season that led the club to the Europa League, according to Sky Sports.

This decision follows a period of escalating tension between Nuno and the club's owner, Evangelos Marinakis. In August, the 51-year-old candidly acknowledged that his relationship with Marinakis was "not the same" and had deteriorated compared to the previous season. This revelation left the club's leadership surprised and perplexed.

The situation deteriorated further when Nuno publicly criticized the club's transfer strategy, voicing his frustration over an imbalanced squad and cautioning that the team was significantly unprepared for the upcoming season.

Nottingham Forest has yet to find a successor but is anticipated to act swiftly in appointing a replacement. Among the candidates favored by the club's management are Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and Fulham's Marco Silva, as reported by Sky Sports News.

On Tuesday, Forest released a statement saying, "Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach," as quoted from Sky Sports.

"The club expresses gratitude to Nuno for his contributions during a notably successful period at the City Ground, particularly his role in the 2024/25 season, which will always be cherished in the club's history," the statement continued.

"As someone who played a crucial role in our success last season, he will always occupy a special place in our journey," it concluded.
