New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the Rising North East Investors Summit on May 23 at 10:30 a. m. at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
According to an official release, this summit is being held to promote the northeast as a place of opportunity, garner global and local investment, and unite key stakeholders, investors, and politicians on a single platform.
The Rising North East Investors Summit, a two-day event from May 23-24, is the culmination of various pre-summit activities, including a series of roadshows and state roundtables, as well as the Ambassador's Meet and Bilateral Chambers Meet.
It has been arranged by the federal government with strong participation from the North Eastern Region state governments.
The Summit will include ministerial sessions, Business-to-Government sessions, Business-to-Business meetings, startups, and exhibits showcasing policy and other efforts made by state governments and central ministries to promote investment.
The major focus industries for investment promotion are Tourism and Hospitality, AgroFood Processing and related sectors, textiles, Handloom, and Handicrafts, healthcare, education and skill development, Information Technology or Information Technology Enabled Services, infrastructure and Logistics, energy, and Entertainment and Sports.
The Northeast Region, which is strategically located for quick access to ASEAN marketplaces and India's growth engine, is rich with natural resources including oil, gas, coal, minerals, wood, medicinal plants, bamboo, forest products, and water resources for enterprises to use. Northeast India offers convenient access to ASEAN markets, making it an important commerce center.
The region, known as India's Green Hub, has lush woods and diversified flora and fauna, making it perfect for eco tourism and agro-based enterprises.
The NER states' GSDP at current prices is projected to be Rs 9. 26 lakh crore in 2023-24. From 2014-15 to 2021-22, the GSDP of NER states grew at a CAGR of 10. 8 percent, compared to a national average of 8. 1 percent.
Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), announced during a curtain raiser event on May 14 that the Ministry's pres-summit activities have received investment ideas worth more than Rs. 1 lakh crore from all of the Northeastern states.
In preparation for the summit, an Ambassadors' Meet was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs on April 15, 2025, here in the national capital, to expose foreign investors to the region. More than 75 nations' ambassadors and high commissioners attended the event, setting a new high for participation.
