Salalah: A symposium on government digital transformation and sustainable leadership, held recently in Salalah, proposed a number of recommendations for labor market governance, national competency development, and embracing digitization in the government and service sectors.
The three-day conference was hosted by the Ministry of Labour in Salalah on the margins of the 2025 Labour Forum, which runs until August 14, 2025, with the participation of specialists and authorities from Oman and other Gulf Cooperation Council nations.
The recommendations covered four key topics. The first topic stated that improved collaboration with important stakeholders, such as the commercial sector, company owners, and educational organizations, can lead to effective labour market governance and partnerships. It emphasizes the value of collaboration in creating shared views while developing strategies and reviewing legislative frameworks for the purpose of establishing flexible employment programs.
The second focus was on developing national capabilities and encouraging entrepreneurship. It proposed that specialized training programs be established to teach graduates and national talent with an emphasis on realizing green and digital transitions, as well as promoting innovation and entrepreneurial initiatives.
The third issue emphasized the necessity of investing in digital infrastructure, increasing the use of electronic authentication and signatures, and developing leaders who work in digital disciplines.
The fourth issue was on how to profit from the conference's outcomes by using an interactive digital platform that allows participants and other individuals to access relevant papers, presentations, and suggestions.
The concluding session addressed the notion of smart management. It looked at how AI may be used to improve government openness, assist decision-making, and expedite digital transformation in institutions. The meeting also presented an applied example of smart management through a project carried out by the Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Labour. The project aims to turn the potential of technology into future prospects.
