Falaj Rehabilitation And Improvement Project In Sur Completed

Sur: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has finalized and received the project concerning the rehabilitation and development of Falaj Al Jeela in the Wilayat of Sur, located in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, from the company executing the project works.

The falaj is one of five falajs listed as international heritage by UNESCO.

The maintenance activities for the falaj, situated in Al Jeela village within the Wilayat of Sur, included the renovation of the water collection area, the open 150-meter channel of the falaj, and the repair of several damaged sections of the falaj, among other tasks.

Salah Salim Al Mahjari, Head of the Dams, Aflaj, and Protection Walls Division at the Department of Water Resources within the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, stated that the aflaj (falajs) in Oman embody a historical, cultural, and humanitarian legacy, extending beyond mere water sources.

He emphasized that they represent a comprehensive system that has contributed to the stability of communities.

Falaj Al Jeela is an eye falaj located in a mountainous region at Al Jeela Village in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The length of the open channel of the falaj measures 415 meters, with the water sourced from the upper reaches of Wadi Al Shaab.
