Dhofar Traffic Symposium Raises Awareness On Road Safety Rules

Salalah: On Wednesday, the Governorate of Dhofar's Directorate General of Culture, Sports, and Youth, in collaboration with the Traffic Safety Institute, hosted a seminar on "Traffic Safety".

The Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah hosted the seminar.

The seminar was intended to educate youngsters and the public about the significance of obeying traffic laws and minimizing accidents.

It also attempted to create a supportive atmosphere for sports and youth accomplishments, as well as to strengthen institutional ties between security, civic, and commercial organizations involved in community awareness, public health, and safety.
Ali Mohammed Baqi, Director of the Sports and Youth Activities Department, gave a speech highlighting the need for collaboration between governmental and nongovernmental organizations in offering awareness programs to all parts of society.

He highlighted the Directorate's attempts to provide educational programs that cater to the needs of young people while also raising traffic awareness and encouraging safe behaviour.

The symposium included three working papers. The first presentation, given by Major Shihab Ahmed Al Shanfari, an officer at the Traffic Safety Institute in Dhofar, addressed the function of institutes in awareness and driver qualification, the hazards of some traffic habits, and statistics showing a 9 percent decrease in traffic accidents and injuries, as well as a 2 percent drop in fatalities, between 2023 and 2024, as well as the efforts of the Royal Oman Police and safety organizations in this area.

The second study, delivered by Abdullah Ramadan Bait Majzih, a social welfare specialist at the Directorate General of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate, addressed strategies for working with individuals with impairments and meeting their needs to ensure their safety, particularly in situations involving mobility and traffic.

The third presentation, given by Basem Jumaan Al Maas, a senior nurse in the Emergency Department at Sultan Qaboos Hospital, focused on the emergency department's role in crisis management and response to health crises caused by accidents. He stated that the department treated 2,668 cases of numerous traffic accidents in the first half of 2025.

The symposium program also included a visual presentation with community awareness themes, a musical poetry section, and a recognition ceremony for the participants.
