US: United Airlines Resumes Mainline Flights After Brief Nationwide Halt Due To Fire Alarm

Chicago: United Airlines has restored all of its mainline flights after a brief national ground delay caused by a fire alarm at its Network Operations Centre in suburban Chicago, according to Fox News.

The airline announced late Thursday that operations had returned to normal after workers returned to the major facility in Arlington Heights, where an emergency alert had prompted a brief move to a backup facility.

A fire alarm sounded at our operational center, compelling workers to evacuate to our adjacent backup facility and resulting in a brief nationwide ground stop of United flights, according to United Airlines.

Employees have returned to our main operating hub, and the ground stoppage has been lifted, the airline has confirmed.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the ground halt began around 6:30 p. m. (local time) and was lifted before 7:30 p. m. (local time).

United Airlines confirmed to Fox News that no flights were diverted, and its regional service, United Express, was unaffected by the situation.

The airline also posted an update on X, informing travelers that certain flights may be delayed due to the brief disturbance.
