Germany: Sports World Mourns Laura Dahlmeier

According to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, he will remember Laura Dahlmeier, a German biathlete who won Olympic gold, as an exceptional sportswoman who died in a mountain accident in Pakistan.

Dahlmeier, 31, perished on a mountain in northern Pakistan after being struck by falling stones on Monday.

Rescuers were able to confirm Dahlmeier's death on Wednesday, however they were unable to recover the body owing to hazardous weather.

Germany and the sports community have been mourning the Olympic champion, with tributes coming in from all around the world. Germany and the global sports community have been saddened by the news of Laura Dahlmeier's death in a climbing accident in Pakistan.

On Wednesday, a biathlete who had won two Olympic gold medals for Germany was pronounced dead, two days after being trapped in a landslide in the high slopes of northern Pakistan.

The 31-year-old was taken away by collapsing rocks on Monday at an elevation of approximately 5,700 meters (18,700 feet) while climbing the 6,069-meter Laila Peak.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany's president, expressed his sympathy to Dahlmeier's parents, calling her an exceptional athlete.

Laura Dahlmeier served as an ambassador for our country in the world, promoting peaceful, cheerful, and equitable living across boundaries, according to him.

Kirsty Coventry, president of the International Olympic Committee, stated that the news was tremendously shocking for all members of the Olympic community.

Laura created history at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics by becoming the first biathlete to capture sprint and pursuit gold in the same Games edition. She will be remembered forever. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this extremely difficult time, according to Coventry.

According to the International Biathlon Union (IBU), throughout her career and after retirement, Laura's eagerness to push beyond limits and accept difficulties touched and inspired millions of people around the world.

The German Ski Federation (DSV) stated that it was horrified and profoundly saddened to learn of Dahlmeier's death. The German Ski Federation has not only lost a great athlete in Laura, but also a very exceptional individual. Her legacy will go beyond sports. We will honor her memory, the DSV stated.

Magdalena Neuner, who won two Olympic golds and 12 world titles in biathlon, shared a snapshot of herself and Dahlmeier with a heart emoticon on Instagram.
