Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development launched the volunteer work platform "Ayadi," or "Hands," yesterday to promote a culture of volunteering and manage it with high professionalism and efficiency by creating a supportive digital environment.
The platform will create a centralized database and statistics on volunteer activities and volunteers in the Sultanate of Oman.
The event was conducted under the patronage of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Muscat's Governor.
“Ayadi” is Oman’s first digital platform devoted to promoting and structuring the values of volunteerism. It is in line with the Oman 2040 vision, which prioritizes wellbeing and social protection by establishing an enabling environment for social responsibility initiatives and voluntary contributions.
The platform will offer a range of volunteer opportunities that encourage positive engagement, a sense of belonging, and community solidarity, in line with national objectives of creating an empowered society that actively participates in determining its development pathways.
The launch event featured the unveiling of the first three platform initiatives. Sohar Port and Freezone have launched the community engagement program "Our Sea, Our Responsibility," which aims to promote community responsibility and environmental awareness in order to protect coastal ecosystems and sustain marine resources. The effort aims to recruit roughly 200 volunteers.
The Oman Design Association launched the Oman Design Week initiative to involve Omani youth in organizing an annual event honoring design and promoting Oman’s cultural identity, with around 10 volunteers.
Meanwhile, the Salalah Volunteer Team's initiative, "Hands of Good," focuses on environmental and community services in Dhofar's harsh mountainous regions.
It intends to open mountain roads and paths, sanitize water gutters, and restore natural springs, enhancing the lives of local inhabitants and their living conditions.
The effort aims for roughly 30 volunteers.
