Salalah: The "Tamkeen and Sumou" (Empowerment and Elevation) expo begins tomorrow (Tuesday) in Dhofar Governorate.
The event, organized by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Committee, will include over 75 SMEs and will take place until August 20.
The display will open under the patronage of HH Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences.
The goal of the exposition is to publicize these companies' products and improve their competitiveness in local markets, as well as to provide chances for establishing business links with private sector entities.
Sheikh Ahmed Amer Al Maslihi, Chairman of the SME Committee at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stated that staging the Tamkeen and Sumou exhibition for SMEs reinforces the Chamber's commitment to promoting and empowering these businesses. This is accomplished by improving the company climate and supplying the enablers required for these organizations' long-term sustainability.
He told the Oman News Agency that the exhibition is an important vehicle for promoting entrepreneurship in Oman and encouraging creativity and economic diversity across all governorates. This fits with the SME Committee's objective of encouraging the commercial sector and empowering Omani entrepreneurs.
He said the participating SMEs reflect nine economic sectors and want to promote Omani goods in the domestic market while expanding into Gulf markets. He stated that the important sectors participating include light industry, technology and innovation, private institutions for people with disabilities, tourism, Omani handicrafts, honey, dates, and others.
The chairman of the SME Committee announced that the expo will include the Sohar International Competition, which seeks to improve display quality, promote product identity, and inspire entrepreneurs to excel and innovate.
The "Tamkeen and Sumou" event is organized as part of the SME Committee's initiatives to expand the basis of economic diversification and empower SMEs for growth and development.
