Islamabad: Following an agreement between India and Pakistan on a halt to hostilities on Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump and key US officials for their involvement. He acknowledged Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their "important contributions to peace in South Asia."
In a post shared on X, Sharif stated, "We appreciate President Trump for his leadership and proactive efforts towards peace in the region. Pakistan is thankful to the United States for facilitating this outcome, which we have embraced in the interest of regional peace and stability."
"We are also grateful to Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their significant contributions to peace in South Asia. Pakistan sees this as a fresh start in addressing the issues that have affected the region and hindered its progress towards peace, prosperity, and stability," the post continued.
Additionally, during a call with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Pakistan for demonstrating "restraint" and assured ongoing support.
In a post shared on X, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry stated, "Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar @MIshaqDar50 conversed today with China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi. During their discussion, the DPM/FM updated Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the developing regional situation following last night's Indian aggression and Pakistan's measured response."
The post further noted, "Foreign Minister Wang Yi recognized Pakistan's restraint and praised its responsible stance in difficult circumstances. He confirmed that China, as Pakistan's All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partner and steadfast ally, will continue to firmly support Pakistan in maintaining its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence. Both leaders highlighted the necessity of close communication and agreed to sustain ongoing cooperation in the coming days."
