Pakistan Braces For More Monsoon Rains As Flood Death Toll Nears 300

Islamabad: Pakistan's emergency and disaster organizations were preparing intentions today to evacuate thousands of people in the face of predictions for more monsoon rains, as the death toll from weeks of flooding approached 300, authorities reported.

According to the national disaster organization, at least 279 individuals, including over half youngsters, have perished in events linked to severe rains and floods since late last month.

According to the country's meteorological office, a new round of rains was expected to hit the country, causing more flash floods and inundation in the towns.

The rescue unit in Punjab's central region was completing a contingency plan to evacuate people from riverbanks in the event of flooding.

The disaster agency had encouraged other regional governments to monitor the developing situation around the clock.

Pakistan is one of the nations most susceptible to the effects of climate change, according to the United Nations.

More than 2,000 individuals perished in Pakistan in 2022 due to floods and ensuing illnesses, with one-third of the South Asian nation flooded.
