Oman Participates In Meeting Of ESCWA Social Development Committee In Algeria

Algiers: On Monday, Oman participated in the 16th meeting of the Social Development Committee of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The meeting took place in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Oman's group to the meeting was led by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.

During its meetings, the ESCWA committee addressed the use of social protection programs in the Arab world to promote equality. It also emphasized the need of implementing creative and more inclusive policies to guarantee that social programs are sustainable and efficient.

The meeting examined ESCWA's efforts in social development, the Committee's recommendations from its 15th session, the activities of ESCWA's Intersessional Expert Working Group on Persons with Disabilities, and the organisation's Expert Group on Social Protection Reform.

The session will include the Fourth Arab Forum for Equality, which will examine the capacity of social protection systems to rectify the most severe forms of inequality.

The Ministry of Social Development attends the meeting as part of its commitment to improve regional cooperation, exchange expertise, and support initiatives to achieve sustainable development and improve citizens' quality of life.
