Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the London Design Biennale 2025 on June 5 for the first time, with a piece named "Memory Network" created by Omani architect and designer Haitham Al Busaidi.
The "Memory Network" is presented under the creative supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth. It links the past and present by rethinking traditional Omani ceramics through a contemporary lens.
Designer Haitham Al Busaidi creates transparent formations inspired by Omani ceramics within a network that resembles data centers—now crucial to our memories and knowledge. The work provides a visual meditation on how communities choose what to conserve across generations.
Potterymaking was more than a trade; these were not simply useful tools, but representations of essential cultural principles: survival, social ties, and the connection with nature.
This artwork offers an interactive experience, asking visitors to contribute their own memories to the digital network, resulting in linked repositories of human experiences. These contributions become part of a live archive, raising critical issues: What do we cherish today?
