Oman Launches 'Aman, Campaign To Mark World Day Against Trafficking In Persons

Muscat: In recognition of its strong commitment to protect human rights and preserve human dignity, the Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday began a national campaign dubbed "Aman" to commemorate the "World Day Against Trafficking in Persons", which is observed on July 30 each year.

The celebration of the event is consistent with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to strengthen the ideals of justice and equity, improve the social security system, and promote the rule of law.

"Aman," the "National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking" launched a three-month national awareness campaign.

The effort seeks to promote a culture of crime prevention and victim support through meaningful local and international institutional collaboration.

The launch ceremony was held under the authority of Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

Dr. Ahmed Talib Al Jabri, Assistant Attorney General (Deputy Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking), told the National Committee that the establishment of "Aman" reinforces the Sultanate of Oman's stance on human trafficking and reflects the combined efforts of security, judicial, legislative, and humanitarian organizations.

According to him, the campaign's slogan is a genuine appeal to every human being and reflects the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to worldwide norms.

Al Jabri noted that Oman's efforts this year represent a watershed moment in the battle against human trafficking, since they include increased investigations, expedited judicial processes, and more openness about arrests and convictions. He stated that the Sultanate of Oman is drafting new legislation that will keep up with changes and reflect the development of the legal framework (for combating human trafficking).

Maj. Khalid Ali Tabuk, Assistant Director of the Royal Oman Police's Department of Combating Human Trafficking (ROP), presented a working paper detailing the responsibilities of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking and the ROP's role in discovering victims of human trafficking. He highlighted several examples of human trafficking cases that the ROP had handled, as well as methods for reporting such crimes.
