Muscat: Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group), in conjunction with Oman Sail, announced the start of the Oman Kite Festival 2025.
The move will help to solidify Oman's place on the global adventure and sports tourism map.
The journey will take place between July 15 and 24, 2025, starting in Barr Al Hikman and ending at Ras Al Hadd, passing through some of the Sultanate of Oman's most beautiful coastal areas.
Sultan Sulaiman Al Khudoori, Assets Manager at OMRAN Group, underlined that the festival corresponds with the company's aim of diversifying tourism options and exploiting Oman's unique natural resources. He emphasized that the tremendous enthusiasm created by last year's downwinder races served as a motivating factor for expanding the event this year in terms of geographic scope and duration. The extended format is anticipated to attract more foreign competitors while also providing a richer tourist experience that reflects the variety of Oman's coastal ecosystems.
Shaima Said Al Asmi, Oman Sail's events specialist, stated that the festival marks a significant milestone in the development of marine sports in Oman. Al Asmi emphasized the country's excellent coastal conditions, which include ecological diversity, favorable wind and weather, and the participation of top international kitesurfers, which adds a new dimension to the event and reinforces Oman's status as a premier destination for water-based adventure tourism.
The event will feature a variety of races, including the multi-stage "Downwinder" race, which will be divided into four stages: from Barr Al Hikman to Masirah Island, from Masirah to Ras Al Ruwais, from the Pink Lagoons to Al Ashkharah, and then from Ras Al Jinz to Ras Al Hadd. In addition to the main event, there will be other races, including the Kite Course Race at Barr Al Hikman, Coastal Race on Masirah Island, and Slalom Race at Ras Al Hadd. The festival will feature family-friendly activities and an SME expo in Ashkharah Municipal Park.
The Oman Kite Festival 2025 serves as a dynamic platform to highlight Oman's beautiful coastal and marine vistas, hence promoting tourism activity and strengthening Oman's image as a major venue for international sporting events. The initiative also seeks to promote undiscovered regions, boost local tourism, and extend the scope of adventure and experience-based travel throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
