According to WFAA news, 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah was brutally murdered by 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a Cuban migrant, who was apprehended on Wednesday. Cobos-Martinez is currently detained at the Dallas County Jail facing charges of capital murder.

"The Consulate General of India, Houston, expresses its condolences for the tragic death of Mr. Chandra Nagamallaiah, an Indian National, who was brutally killed at his workplace in Dallas, Texas. We are in communication with the family and are offering all possible support. The suspect is in the custody of the Dallas Police, and we are closely monitoring the situation."

CBS reported, citing a witness, that both the suspect and the victim were employees at the motel. According to the witness, the suspect pursued the victim with a machete, struck him multiple times, and then decapitated him.

The beheading occurred outside a motel in East Dallas. As reported by CBS, Dallas Police responded to a stabbing incident at the Downtown Suites motel early in the morning.

"The initial investigation indicates that the suspect inflicted multiple cuts on the victim using a sharp weapon," stated Terrence Rhodes, Executive Assistant Chief of the Dallas Police. However, the Dallas Police declined to respond to any inquiries regarding the investigation.

A witness informed CBS that the suspect approached the victim from behind wielding a machete and "decapitated him." Local residents expressed to CBS their shock, describing the incident as "sick and disturbing."

According to police and witnesses, WFAA news reported that Cobos-Martinez had been residing and working at the motel. After his arrest, he was found still armed with the machete and covered in blood. WFAA reported that he confessed to investigators during a recorded interview about killing Nagamallaiah.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed their involvement in assisting Dallas police during the interrogation. In a statement, ICE remarked, "Cobos-Martinez committed an unimaginable act and went on to kick the head around like a soccer ball." The agency also noted that Cobos-Martinez had been detained at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson until January 13, when he was released under supervision due to the lack of "removal flights to Cuba."
