Muscat: 'The Lamir Project' is a youth project that will turn a river into an integrated tourist destination in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate.
Youth empowerment and entrepreneurship are critical components in boosting the national economy and strengthening the foundations of sustainable development. They help to the development of unique projects that represent Omani youngsters' inventiveness while also capitalizing on natural and environmental resources, hence increasing tourism and economic activity in numerous governorates.
In this context, the Lamir Tourism Project in the Al Mughsail region of Salalah Governorate has emerged as one of the creative youth projects launched by a group of young people with the goal of turning one of the canals leading to Khor Fadkhit into a natural and modern tourist attraction.
Nader bin Bakhit Fadhil, the project's founder, said that Lamir Al Mughsail was first launched during the 2022 Khareef Dhofar season to be a quality addition to the governorate's tourist sector by leveraging on the Al Mughsail region's unique assets, which include silver beaches, natural fountains, and proximity to Al Marneef Cave.
He emphasised that the idea came from a desire to create a long-term local investment strategy that would boost the governorate's attractiveness and cement its place. As an integrated tourist resort.
Fadhil stated that the project's facilities were intended to fulfill the desires of several community groups, including a corner for restaurants and cafes, a children's play area and bicycle routes, boat tours to explore the river in Khor Fadkhit, an artificial waterfall to provide an aesthetic and recreational component, and beach sitting spots for visitors' comfort.
He emphasized that the project's economic and social value stems from the fact that it gives youngsters a seasonal source of revenue, boosts the local economy, and provides them with relevant expertise in the tourist sector. Furthermore, it is an environmentally friendly project that restores the valley's route and transforms it into a clean, organized area that promotes sustainability.
The project's creator stated that Lamir Al Mughsail represents the youth's aim of establishing modern tourism destinations based on local investment, innovation, and creativity while maintaining environmental sustainability. It serves as an inspirational example for excellent youth projects and helps to improve the governorate's tourist destinations.
