Environment Authority Participates In High-Level Political Forum On Sustainable Development

New York: The Environment Authority participated in the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York on Wednesday. The forum was held in New York with the goal of promoting sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs, leaving no one behind.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was led by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, who is now presiding over the 7th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA7).

The seminar focused on practical, data-driven approaches to bridge implementation gaps, especially in the context of interconnected global crises such as climate change, inequality, and economic instability.

Al Amri addressed the forum, highlighting the seventh meeting of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA7), which is set to take place in Nairobi in December 2025. He stated that UNEA7 provides a "global opportunity to promote sustainable, knowledge-based solutions for a resilient planet. "

Al Amri emphasized the necessity of developing environmental solutions with a focus on the relationships between environmental concerns and public health. He emphasized the necessity of adopting an integrated strategy, such as the One Health concept, to properly tackle these issues.

He also emphasized the necessity of taking a holistic approach to environmental challenges and promoting circular economy as a critical component for achieving sustainable production and consumption. In this light, he urged nations to include such remedies into their national policy.

Al Amri underlined the progress made in negotiations over the convention to regulate plastic pollution. He underlined the necessity of adopting international agreements to safeguard marine diversity beyond national jurisdiction, as well as collaboration between the United Nations Environment Assembly and entities responsible for multilateral environmental agreements to promote effective environmental governance.

The speech also emphasized the critical need to improve the global financial system and create sustainable and creative financing mechanisms to promote sustainable economic and environmental strategies. Al Amri emphasized that war-torn regions should be included in initiatives to meet the Sustainable Development Goals as part of steps to promote peace and environmental justice.

At the conclusion of his address, Al Amri stressed the significance of conversation and understanding as the best way to reach reconciliation at a time when the international community is working together to secure a long-term future for all.

On the margins of the summit, Al Amri met with the President of the United Nations General Assembly. The discussion addressed strategies to strengthen worldwide environmental action and emphasized the Sultanate of Oman's contribution to promoting the global sustainability agenda.

Al Amri also had a meeting with Hungary's environment minister. The meeting focused on bilateral and regional cooperation in the sectors of environment and sustainable development. The two groups discussed preparations for the forthcoming seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly.

The Environment Authority collaborated with the Environment Society of Oman to host an event on the fringes of the conference. The event aimed to strengthen young people's participation in climate action and marine environment protection, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include Goal 13 on climate action, Goal 14 on Life Below Water, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
