Workshop Discusses Oman’s Fourth National Report On Human Rights

Muscat: The Foreign Ministry conducted an enlarged session on Thursday to review Oman's fourth national report under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) human rights mechanism, as the country prepares to present it before the United Nations Human Rights Council in November 2025.

The workshop fits with Oman's continuing efforts to strengthen its international human rights commitments, having previously ratified numerous international conventions, including the Convention Against Torture, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights.

The conference gathered representatives from relevant government agencies, civil society groups, and human rights specialists. Participants examined progress in implementing previous recommendations, as well as important issues and possibilities for improving and protecting human rights in Oman.

The discussions underlined the importance of including civil society organizations in the creation of human rights reports and promoting collaboration among national stakeholders to guarantee that the final report is thorough and transparent, reflecting the current state of human rights in Oman while also highlighting continuing efforts in this area.

Oman will deliver its fourth national UPR report in November 2025, and the evaluation before the Human Rights Council in Geneva is set for January 2026.
