Muscat - Registration is now open for the 14th edition of Mussanah Race Week, presented by ASYAD. The event, which will be held from October 15 to 21, 2025, at the Barceló Mussanah Resort, will bring together over 100 sailors from all over the world for a week of coaching, camaraderie, and competition in Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Hansa 303, and the inclusive RS Venture Connect categories.
The Mussanah Sailing School, operated by Oman Sail, has been certified as a Category A High Performance Centre by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) and serves as the home for Oman's National Sailing Teams, allowing young sailors to experience international standard facilities as they progress in their sailing careers. Conditions in Mussanah are anticipated to be excellent for sailing again this year, providing some of the region's top sailors with the ideal venue to demonstrate their abilities.
During the event, Oman Sail instructors will also conduct daily community 'Try Sailing' classes to acquaint people from the local community with the sport and let them experience the sensation of being on the water with a skilled instructor. The goal is to inspire the next generation of Omani sailors and demonstrate how accessible sailing can be at Oman Sail's Mussanah Sailing School, which is located at the Barceló Mussanah Resort.
Abdulaziz Al Shidi, Acting Sailing Director at Oman Sail, said, "The standard of sailing [in the region] improves year on year, therefore we are delighted to welcome a high calibre of athletes, along with their coaches and families, to Mussanah in October for a week of competition, education, and mutual understanding. " The event promises to be a celebration of the sport as well as an opportunity for young sailors to connect, develop as athletes and individuals, and get experience in a high-level regatta setting – all in the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship. "
Shaima Al Asmi, Oman Sail's Operations Executive and Mussanah Race Week Project Manager, commented, "Mussanah Race Week has long been recognized as a sailing festival that extends beyond racing to foster friendship, inclusion, and mutual understanding. This year is the event's 14th edition, which is a tremendous achievement for sailing in Oman and Oman Sail, and we are looking forward to greeting the next generation of sailing talents to our coast for another unforgettable week on the water. "
Following three practice days, competition at Mussanah Race Week will commence, with 12 races in each division determining the champions (no more than three per day). Prizes will be given to the top three overall finishers in each class, as well as the junior top three for sailors under the age of 12, the girls top three, and the overall Team Racing competition.
Oman Sail and the Barceló Mussanah Resort will also organize a BBQ night for all sailors, team, and families, providing a fantastic chance to sample true Omani hospitality while getting to know one another in the resort's lovely environs.
The 2024 edition of Mussanah Race Week earned Gold Clean Regatta Certification from Clean Regattas, the world's top sustainability certification, recognizing Oman Sail's dedication to preserving the environment during the event. Initiatives such as a beach cleanup, onsite waste reduction measures, a recycling program, and the removal of single-use plastics demonstrated the possibilities for sailing to be a clean sport. Similar efforts will be implemented this year, including a beach cleanup during the event days.
Mussanah Race Week 2025 is sponsored by presenting partner ASYAD and venue partner Barceló Mussanah Resort. More information about the event can be found on the Oman Sail website.
