Oman Reaffirms Commitment To Peaceful Resolution Of All Issues, Disputes

New York: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful settlement of all problems and conflicts, the equal application of international law, and the pursuit of justice and peace. This involves enforcing the will of the international community, as shown by the 143 member states who voted in favor of giving Palestine full membership in the United Nations, upholding the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, and protecting their full collective rights.

This was stated during a high-level UN Security Council meeting titled "Strengthening International Peace and Security Through Multilateralism and Peaceful Dispute Resolution".

Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Omar bin Said Al Kithiri, praised the Sultanate of Oman for hosting this meeting. Oman expects that the Security Council will renew its unwavering commitment to the ideals stated in the UN Charter, including the sovereign equality of states and the use of peaceful and legitimate ways to settle conflicts, while protecting collective security to promote peace and justice for all.

Al Kithiri emphasized that this meeting occurs as the world observes the most horrible episodes of systematic and deliberate murders by Israeli occupying troops against innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, in the Gaza Strip. These actions, he stated, are a clear breach of international and humanitarian legislation and treaties, exacerbated by the Security Council's failure to take effective and firm measures in line with its responsibilities to preserve international peace and security, guarantee justice, and protect civilians in conflict zones.

He stated that Oman, via this session, aims to promote the practical implementation of the UN Charter's noble objectives—maintaining international peace and security via negotiation, mediation, and preventive diplomacy—to achieve just, equitable, and depoliticized solutions to the underlying causes of conflicts.

Oman, he emphasized, supports the Secretary-General's plea to modify peacekeeping operations to changing circumstances, with precise goals and criteria to assure their success and credibility.

Al Kithiri emphasized the crucial role of the Security Council and the International Court of Justice in upholding the rule of law, deterrence systems, and accountability to rebuild trust in the international community and boost the legitimacy of joint action.

Concluding his speech, he advocated for methods to reform the Security Council, making it more inclusive and responsive to modern issues based on established legal concepts of justice and unwavering foundations of cooperation and consensus among all countries—ensuring peaceful cohabitation and mutual economic prosperity for everyone.
