Salalah: On Sunday, the Museum of the Frankincense Land in Salalah opened an exhibition called "Dhofar: A Natural History Wonder."
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism collaborates with the Natural History Museum in Muscat and the Museum of the Frankincense Land in Dhofar Governorate to host the event.
The exhibition was launched by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Agency, and will last until August 31.
The display depicts Dhofar's mountainous and marine environments, highlighting a variety of uncommon species found across the world, as well as the diverse plants that thrive throughout the governorate's wilayats. It also has a scientific collection on the natural history of Dhofar.
According to Usama Mohammed Al Rowas, Director of the Museum of the Frankincense Land, the exhibition, which was launched by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, seeks to raise environmental conservation awareness, emphasize the need of conserving natural resources, and offer an educational and recreational platform for visitors of all ages.
He noted that the exhibition is uniquely shown throughout the Museum's various rooms, making it accessible to all visitors during the Khareef (monsoon) season.
This is intended to promote the governorate's position as a popular global tourist destination.
He also stated that the exhibit promotes Omani character, preserves local natural history, and offers chances for scientific research and cooperation with academic and community organizations.
